A Marketing Intern’s discovery of digital signs in everyday life.
by Megan Delio, Scala US Marketing Intern
It’s not that I didn’t know digital signage existed, or that I was unaware of what digital signage was – it seems, as a result of being a Scala Marketing Intern I have become more aware of the potential usage each digital sign has.
I noticed the occasional digital sign before working at Scala, but now it’s like magic. I stop at the gas station and see a digital advertisement prompting me to drink coffee because it’s the morning. I’m out to dinner and the specials show up on a ‘mini sign’ at the table, even at sporting events I see digital signs prompting me to buy things or showing me a map of the stadium, digital signage seems to be everywhere I go! I am not only seeing digital signs everywhere, I have also begun to question things about the signs. Who powers it? How many screens do they have? What kind of channels do they have set up? What is the company’s intended use for the signs, and are they executing it?
The potential for increased and effective communication via digital signage is something I find very exciting! As marketers and advertisers we are always trying to find new ways of ‘cutting through the clutter’, the new ways that digital signs are making targeted messaging effective is something that any company can use to promote their message. I am excited to learn and see more of the impact that digital signs are having on the communications industry!
